Sat Nav - the Magical Mystery Tour!!
Well, I had a nice new present for Christmas - a Sat Nav! It's lovely and helpful, given that I have a propensity to get lost in my home town, nevermind in the wilder outreaches of Beverley! Ruth and I roadtested it last night - as we were getting lost (yes, the Sat Nav had already started its little game) on the way to the Sun Inn - and it decided to take us up what can only be described as a medieval pack horse dirt track, called, chillingly, Swinecalf Lane. Ruth did point out, advisedly, that there was a dead end sign as we turned onto the track. I was certain that Sat Nav could not be wrong and it was certain we should go up there! What started out as an untarmaced route rapidly turned into a reed-thin track full of potholes, crevasses and huge lumps and bumps. We then entered into a spooky, foggy wooded area, with small creatures throwing themselves in our general direction or fleeing, terrified, back into the trees. We saw some mutant-looking rabbits (large) and at least one stoat-like creature and I was certain we were about to encounter a banshee, a will o'the wisp or some deranged ghoul, rending its hair and howling, still trying to find its way out of Swinecalf Lane. What in fact happened was that we heard a horrific crunching noise as Ruth's car nearly left its innards on the track and Ruth, quite sensibly, asked how far down the route the Sat Nav said we needed to go. I told her 'only 4 miles'! At that point, Ruth decided it was time to turn round so we delicately picked our way back up the track, creatures still emanating form the trees as we went.
We then hit Beveley - eventually - got lost there, too, and asked two sets of strangers for directions to the Sun Inn, near the Minster, which the pub was opposite. They both said 'ooh, there's a band on there tonight - we've just come from there'. We chorused 'we are the band!!' (or part of it) and they said 'well, you better get a move on then!' Errrr, yes!
So, in the end, it only took us two hours to do a 1 and a half hour journey.......excellent!!
And then I knocked my red wine all over the floor in some over-enthusiastic moment of dancing to one of our songs. Great night - thoroughly enjoyed it!!!

GPS and no Access Roads
A word of warning - if your GPS wants you to ignore this sign and plough on regardless, you risk losing the underside of your car.
Sharon - perhaps that is where your glove got to .... fell through the hole in the bottom of my car!
Into another dimension
And into another dimension, along with my earring and red wine!!
My Sat Nav is very naughty! I will be re-training it to behave shortly.....
