New Year Resolutions and The Full Body Workout

The 1st of January has come and gone.  What of my NY resolutions?  Well the gym one has gone straight out of the window, even before I got there.  However, I now have a plan to ensure all parts of the body get an improved workout without even going near a gym.

I want to be a bit more inventive in my contribution to the music we create.  Am planning to work on cross rhythm patterns (there's one currently going on in one of the new songs we are working on).  This has the advantage of giving the brain a good workout because it has to be able to work with two independent rhythms going on simultaneously.

There's gonna be a bit more serious practice of rudiments to strethen my wrist muscles and improve hand to hand coordination. There are times when my right hand isn't too confident about what my left hand is going to do!

I'm goona work on limb independence.  My left side and my feet are a little too lazy. Is only my right hand working, I ask myself?  Now I will practise rudiments starting on the left hand and involve the feet.   Paradiddles with feet and hands, starting on the left ... agggggghhhhhhh!

Last resolution - to take Gaffa tape to gigs.  This is because we always seem to be without it in our hour of need.   So what is this drummer doing with Gaffa tape you may ask.  She uses it to decorate her hula hoops.  And hula hooping takes care of the waist.

So there you go, full body workout - brain, limbs and waist.  Forget the gym membership - buy a drumkit!

Hope you are all having a great new year.

Ruth
